Bishop Arts is six walkable blocks around Bishop Avenue and Davis Street where almost nothing is a chain — a 2008 pizza tavern, a 1980s Veracruz kitchen, a walk-up taco window, and the Italian dining room that Dallas books a month ahead. Every place below is a real, listed business on Oak Cliff America with a street address, a phone number and hours. Thirteen picks, grouped by the time of day you’ll want them. Hours re-checked October 8–9, 2026 for Oddfellows, Cafe Brazil, Lucia, Encina, Veracruz Café and Emporium Pies; Lockhart and Eno’s show different hours on different sites and their entries say so; the rest are as listed in September, so call ahead.

The all-day café of the district: breakfast from 7 AM, coffee roasted in house, and the weekend brunch with the longest line in Bishop Arts — no reservations for brunch, so join the Yelp waitlist on the way over. Lunch, dinner and a full bar the rest of the day. Open from 7 AM every day: weekend brunch 7 AM–3 PM, dinner Monday to Saturday 5–10 PM. Sunday-evening hours are not posted on its booking page, so check before a Sunday dinner.

Sixteen years of all-day breakfast at the north end of Bishop Avenue: banana-bread French toast, chilaquiles, omelets and crêpes, specialty coffee and a full bar on a covered patio. It’s also the late option — open Sun–Thu 7 AM–11 PM and Fri–Sat until midnight.
3. Lockhart Smokehouse

The Central Texas meat-market ritual at the corner of Davis and Bishop since 2011: order by the pound at the counter, butcher paper, no forks, sauce only if you ask. Kreuz Market sausage, brisket and the beef rib are why there’s a line, and they sell out — go early. Opens 11 AM every day. Closing times differ by source — 8 or 9 PM on the restaurant’s own site in September, later Thursday to Saturday on the Dallas Morning News page — and the meat can sell out before either, so go early. Weekday happy hour 3–6 PM.
4. Taqueria El Si Hay

The walk-up window at Davis and Llewellyn that Oak Cliff has lined up at since the late 1990s. Bistec, chorizo, barbacoa, al pastor and lengua on warm corn tortillas, elotes and aguas frescas, eaten on the hood of your car. Cash only. Sun–Thu 10 AM–10 PM, Fri–Sat until 11 PM.
5. Eno’s Pizza Tavern

The family-run tavern that has anchored Bishop Avenue since 2008: cracker-thin crusts under farm-to-table toppings (pork belly, pancetta, fennel, goat cheese), big salads and Texas craft beer, with an art wall drawn by neighborhood kids. Opens late morning (11 or 11:30 AM) and closes around 9–10 PM on weeknights, 11 PM or later Friday and Saturday. Sources disagree about Monday — the tavern’s own site listed Monday hours in September, the Dallas Morning News page says closed — so call before a Monday visit.

The reservation to make in Oak Cliff. David Uygur’s small, chef-owned Italian room on North Bishop turns out house-cured salumi and fresh pasta made every day on a menu that changes constantly with the season. Bookings open a month at a time and go the same morning. Dinner only, Tuesday to Saturday from 5:30 PM; closed Sunday and Monday.
7. Encina

Chef Matt Balke’s neighborhood restaurant at the west end of the district — an “uncomplicated yet adventurous” seasonal menu with Texas Hill Country, Mexican and German touches, a good bar and one of the best weekend brunches in Oak Cliff. Dinner Wed–Thu 5–9 PM, Fri–Sat 5–9:30 PM; brunch Sat–Sun 10 AM–2 PM; closed Mon–Tue.
8. Written by the Seasons

Vegetable-forward cooking a block off Bishop Avenue, in an airy room whose big doors open onto one of the roomiest patios in the district — wood-fired avocado, fish on banana leaf, a full bar of wine and craft cocktails. Listed in the Michelin Guide’s Texas selection and reviewed by Texas Monthly. Dinner nightly, brunch on weekends; reservations on Resy.
9. Veracruz Café

One of the district’s longest-running restaurants, cooking the Gulf-coast food of the state of Veracruz: blue-corn enchiladas, Xalapa-style chiles rellenos, ceviche and mole, plus fish and birria tacos for the Tex-Mex crowd. The family has since opened in Cedar Hill and Midlothian, but this is the original. Sun–Thu 11 AM–9 PM, Fri–Sat 11 AM–10 PM.
10. Paradiso

The garden restaurant at the heart of the district — Southern European–inspired cooking built on seasonal ingredients, with pizza, pasta and bread made in house, in a leafy, glass-walled dining room and patio. Lunch daily 11 AM–3 PM, dinner from 5 PM, weekend brunch Sat–Sun 11 AM–3 PM. Reservations on Resy.

The flagship pie shop, in a little house on North Bishop: The Drunken Nut (bourbon pecan), Lord of the Pies (deep-dish apple), Smooth Operator (French silk chocolate) and a seasonal pie, by the slice or whole. The weekend-night line moves fast. Sun–Thu 11 AM–9 PM, Fri–Sat 11 AM–11 PM.

The woman-owned craft-beer bar on West Davis since 2015 — a rotating tap wall heavy on Texas breweries and a deli counter for sandwiches to go with it — where the district drinks before and after dinner. Check the website for current hours and tap list.

Not on this list: Hattie’s, the Southern dining room on West Eighth that defined Bishop Arts for years, closed in February 2020. Norma’s Cafe (1123 W. Davis) and Nova (1417 W.
